>>Taken From the SNICHOVAULT<< Fun with holes!
Here's another negative pair, no not Rachel and Brendon, duhhhh. A pair of negatives from 2007 that make up one of my favorite pictures from out and about in Baltimore. But I mean seriously, dra-ma!
This is probably a familiar sight for most people who frequent Fell's Point, as it's right next to to the police station Daniel Baldwin was contractually obligated to be filmed in when all he wanted was to get off the east coast.
For this negative I applied some paint mixed with glue by hand, why ruin a brush when I can use my finger. By mixing the paint it breaks the paint down to just bits of pigment and solidifies them in a thin transparent layer of glue. This gives my picture a hazy, aging effect that I really like.
Here's the effects layer I made to mix with the Fell's source. With a mini torch, I essentially flambéd the negative first. Then with different paints with varying opacity I mask out zones that I want to be unaffected, or less affected by this layer. I believe I used white oil paint, black acrylic, and black india ink.
Some of my favorite features of how these negatives turned out would probably start with how it looks like smog is coming out the top of the tugboat, and then seems to fill the rest of the scene. I like the hazy cloud look the layer of glue and paint adds in the sky area without smog. I dig the random additions the burn holes make throughout the picture. I think it's a very unique photograph that is made from humble art supplies. But man, that Rachel is sooo barf! Right?
