>>Taken From the SNICHOVAULT<< Crust of bread and such
Stuck, stranded without a darkroom. This is how I am right now, looking to glean any bit of greatness I've made already from the walls and coffers of my home. And what better well to draw from than this series, short one, a picture of me. These are the first pictures that I altered, and I still got them. Not sure when I made them, but they changed the way I thought about photography. These are pictures of my parents merged with a skull that I stole from the drawing wing of my school. Recently I robbed these pictures of their oversized frames, and now they are staring at the back of my head, so I thought I should feature them here on SNICHOPHOTO.
Because these pictures helped shape my artistic mindgrapes, I wrote a little bit about them! And here's what I said- transcribe!
I started by taking pictures of myself, my parents, and a skull from a science class style skeleton. I burned holes in the negatives in the negatives of the faces of myself and my parents and the skull in specific areas. I then sandwiched the negatives and on a "huge" 16x20 sheet of paper exposed the images. The result was a set of portraits of my folks and myself as floating heads with parts of out skills exposed. The notion of having an idea and successfully executing it felt good. Making pictures in a way no-one around me was felt good. I was hooked. After I realized I could make cool stuff messing with the negative, that's when I really fell for making art.
I had to clean up so much language! I really should be more dignified when talking about myself to nobody. I can't seem to find the picture of myself anywhere. It might be behind another picture in a frame somewhere. It was a picture of me, with way to long hair, only my jaw is gone and in it's place is exposed skull jaw. It was the first picture that was chosen for a juried art show. I thought these two were better anyway.
